OVERVIEW

Established in the year …….., the Department Orthodontics and Dento-facial Orthopaedics has been at the forefront in the field of Orthodontics involving itself in imparting quality education and delivering health care of the highest order. Equipped with state of the art physical facilities, modern clinical equipment, and materials, highly experienced faculty, the department offers A to Z treatment modalities available in the field of Orthodontics. The Department is located on the ground floor of the Bhojia Dental College and Hospital, with a built area of more than ……. Sq. Ft. The department is mainly concerned with the treatment of malocclusions and dento-facial deformities. The motto of our department is excellence in clinical care and patient satisfaction.

Keeping pace with technological advances, the department has been continuously upgrading itself to the use of Digital Technology in diagnosis and treatment planning. The faculty and the PG students are involved extensively in the research, publications, and presentations at National and International forums. CDE and workshops are also conducted regularly.  

UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAME

The department is divided into the undergraduate and postgraduate sections. An undergraduate student is initially introduced to the basics of Orthodontics through lectures, seminars, and discussions. The 3rd year and final year students get well acquainted with the Diagnosis and Treatment Planning which is the prime requisite to prepare them towards their success in clinical practice. Experienced and approachable faculty where in a decent student teacher ratio is maintained prudent for molding students in into knowledgeable and skilled orthodontists. Emphasis on research to advance the specialty of orthodontics Organization of CDE programs to spread knowledge of latest trends.

Highlights of the under graduate training programme:-

• A Faculty is allotted for theory and practical classes
• ICT and Multimedia Presentations are used extensively for theory classes. This helps in a better understanding of the concepts and at the same time makes learning an enjoyable experience
• One to one interaction and discussions with the students during Practical classes and clinical postings
• Practical demonstrations for various techniques and procedures like wire bending, acrylization, finishing, etc
• The department library has the latest Orthodontic books, Journals & Periodicals for ready reference
• Personal counselling of students by senior staff members
• Feedback is regularly obtained from students regarding Teaching and Learning process
• Formative and Summative assessments followed by the identification of slow learners and advanced learners. Appropriate remedial actions for the respective class of students are initiated.

POSTGRADUATE PROGRAME

The PG course in Orthodontics and Dento-facial Orthopaedics was started in the year 2011 affiliated to the Himachal Pradesh University, India, with an intake of 03 students annually. The seats were enhanced in the year 2016.

Highlights of the Post Graduate Training Programme:-

• A robust OPD ensures that more than 200 new cases are added each year resulting in ample clinical material for our trainee post-graduates. 
• The department employs the latest techniques and advancements in orthodontic therapy such as micro-implants.
• Use of 2D Digital Diagnosis and Treatment planning soft wares (Nemoceph Software)
• Our residents and faculty treat a wide variety of cases ranging from simple malocclusions to the most complex orthodontic problems and cleft care.
• The post-graduate program aims to train students to become competent and astute orthodontists.
