Oral Medicine & Radiology


Oral Medicine is the branch of dentistry that deals with the diagnosis and non surgical management of diseases that are localized to the oral cavity or are oral manifestations of systemic diseases. The phases of dental practice that are essentially concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of medically compromised patients are managed.


Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology:-

It is the specialty of dentistry and discipline of radiology concerned with the production and interpretation of images and data produced by all modalities of radiant energy that are used for the diagnosis and management of diseases, disorders and conditions of the oral and maxillofacial region.


Salient Features:-

The department offers teaching facilities for undergraduate students. The department is well equipped with the latest infrastructure which includes: 

  • Diagnosis section with dental chairs, diagnostics.
  • Dental Radiology Section with analogue and digital X-ray machines.
  • Panoramic X-ray Machine with conventional and digital compatibility.
  • Automatic X ray film processors.
  • Darkroom.
  • Computers with intranet and internet facility, scanner and printer.

The department is equipped to offer:-

  • Diagnosis of all orofacial conditions.

  • Diagnosis and management of various oral mucosal lesions.

  • Diagnosis and medical management of TMJ disorders.

  • Diagnosis and management of Orofacial Pain.

  • All kinds of intraoral and extra oral radiographs with their interpretation.


The subject is taught in the third year and fourth year BDS. The course involves didactic lectures and clinical postings. During the clinical postings, students are required to present a seminar using multi- media projector on the topic allotted. Students are also expected to complete assignment of case history recording, clinical problem-based exercises and radiological exercises and submit to the department at the end of the postings. Three sessional examinations will be conducted in the subject before University examination. End posting clinical examination will also be held for internal assessment.
